Katya moved to Birmingham, Alabama in 1996 from Moscow, Russia. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005.

She currently lives and works in the Bronx, New York.

Katya's sculptures appear to encompass vast and indistinct terrains; they seem intimate but distant like a memory. Meykson reconfigures maps into talismanic, tactile objects with traditional embroidery techniques and a variety of materials: yarn, paper-maché, faux fur, tin-foil, velvet and metallic fabric.

Katya's paintings and drawings depict views generated by remembering. In her works she intends to recreate transient and intimate images of her childhood flashbacks.
